New Year’s Sushi
[HDR-IMG]
If you haven’t already, head over to my “Contest Time” post and enter the contest to win one of five Sushi Day t-shirts in the size of your choice! Deadline is midnight PST next Saturday, so get entering!
Here’s a little peek into how my family celebrates New year’s: lots of sushi and plenty of other food to eat all day! Enjoy the pictures!
Son caught me in the middle of making sushi on New year’s morning (yes, those are sushi pajama pants!)
I made 10 rolls of the Bacon Crunchy Shrimp Roll.
I made 5 rolls of a spicy-ish tuna roll (which I will post about soon) and 2 Rainbow Rolls (which I will also post about soon)
Inari sushi from Sakae Sushi (our New Years sushi place!)
Me cutting up the sushi at my uncle’s house (I cut them there because it is SO much easier to transport in rolls!)
This is about half of the Bacon Crunchy Shrimp Rolls, cut up.
Some of the sushi with sashimi in it (I had to keep the fish and non-fish sushi separated, because my mom is allergic to fish and my brother can’t eat sashimi or anything that has touched sashimi because his immunity is pretty low from the chemotherapy.)
2 of the tuna rolls cut up, and both of the Rainbow Rolls.
Our New year’s spread: 5 types of sushi, bulgogi, chicken fingers, won-tons with sweet and sour sauce, shrimp and cucumber sunomono. Not shown: asparagus, 2 kinda of fried rice, lemon squares, pecan tartlets, brownies, assorted other desserts. Oh, and Cool Whip. π

Dear Allison!
Happy New Year!
Great pics!
Now, you are really into fish!
You don’t cease to surprise me!
Looking forward to reading more postings!
Cheers,
Robert-Gilles
Happy New Year Allison! Gosh your pictures are so delicious, it makes me want to fly out just to have some sushi prepared by you! Hehe. Yummy! I love your PJ pants… and although I get kind of !!! when people ask me, I have to ask you. Those are your hands cutting the sushi, yes? Is that a ring on the engagement finger, or is it an engagement ring? (I wear a ring on my engagement finger, but not an engagement ring.) π Yum happy eating!
PS How many people and do you guys finish EVERYTHING? I thought MY family could eat… dang!
Robert-Gilles – Happy New Year to you too! Thank you! There will be plenty more fish to come!
Yvo – Thanks! Yeah, those are my hands. It is a ring on my engagement finger, but not an engagement ring! Son gave it to me on my first birthday that we celebrated together, but was very adamant that it was not an engagement ring! (We had only been together for five months at the time, so of course it was WAY too early to be engaged!) π Let’s see… 13 people, we finished about half of the food and split up the rest to take home. π
What a lovely (yummy) spread. I’ve cut back dramatically on sushi since the cool weather came along. Snow/ice and sushi just doesn’t seem to go together for me. I’m all about the soups these days. π
Thanks! Yeah, I’m in California so it doesn’t *really* get cold here (although I’m kinda a wimp so I’m here freezing π ), so it’s sushi weather year-round!
Hey.
So…those bacon crunchy shrimp rolls are making my mouth water.
The end.
Oh.
That was delicious, by the way.
Thank you. We shall see, we shall see.
best
I Luv to make sushis too…I have been looking for some gift ideas for our next anniversary. I was googling and found your wonderful blog. Thanks for it, I have just bookmarked it and will make regular visits to catch up with your future posts. I will be making sushi for her!
When I was in Japan I practice how to make sushis…it seems easy but not that for a beginner thing since the fish we used was very expensive and I messed them all :)))lol!!!
Ohh, now you may wonder what the fish was??? Yeah it was Caspean filet that was a really rare one in Sapporo at those times.
ERL – I hope she loved it. π
BE – Sounds delicious.
