American Roll

This roll is pretty much a California Roll [1] with the addition of shrimp. (Because obviously California plus shrimp equals America. Who knows how they came up with that one? I have no idea… I just make the sushi!) This makes the roll seem a little more elegant(something you can serve to “polite company”? hehe)

By the way, now that I am done with the quarter and have several weeks off until next quarter, I have all sorts of time to spend making sushi! So I was thinking that during the week between Christmas and New Years I’ll go on a hardcore sushi making spree. :D What have you guys been wanting to see up here that I haven’t made yet? My only restrictions are that it can’t involve raw fish (I don’t know if I’ll be able to get fish that won’t kill me or make me sick) and nothing too expensive (I am a “starving” college student after all!) For those of you who have made suggestions before, I have taken note and will try to make them during that time. Please please let me know what you would like to see!!! (…for I am nothing without my precious readers! :D )

Makes 6 rolls, or 36-48 pieces.

Ingredients
Cooking Directions
  1. Cook sushi rice [6].
  2. Slice the avocado and cucumber into long, thin slices.
  3. Mix the imitation crab and mayonnaise, separating the crab pieces into flakes.
  4. Roll [9] the sushi, using avocado, cucumber, imitation crab, and shrimp as your fillings.
  5. Serve with shoyu [10], wasabi [11], and ginger [12] if desired. Even better, serve with cocktail sauce as you would a shrimp cocktail!
