Yet another reason why we love you, Allison. Thanks for all your work on this.
I do have a question. I create blog posts offline using Windows Livewriter. Can I create the blog post, upload it, then add the recipe? And is there any way for those of us with “mature” blogs and lots of recipes to easily reformat them to work with microformats, or do we need to redo them all manually?
Andrea – It was my pleasure. Hopefully lots of food bloggers will find it useful. ^_^
Yes, you can create the post elsewhere, as long as you use the RecipeSEO plugin to insert the recipe portion of the post.
Unfortunately, there’s no easy way for the plugin to go back and reformat all your older recipes. I’m hoping to find a way to make it easier, but to be able to do that automatically is much, much more complicated than just formatting posts, and would require some hardcore AI. But I am definitely doing my very best to make the plugin as advanced and as easy to use as possible, especially with future versions of the plugins that will be released soon. ^_^
I like how easy this is to use, but need to edit the recipe I created with your plugin. I tested one quickly to see what the final results would look like and now see it’s full of typos (for which I am notorious!). I also entered too many lines between steps. So steps 2 and 4 are numbered, but empty.
I don’t want to re-enter the entire recipe. Is there an edit feature?
Thanks for creating this plugin. I was beyond upset when I read what Google expected us to do as coding. I knew someone would develop a plugin — I just didn’t think anyone would do it so quickly.
Charmian – I completely understand, it’s a pain in the butt to edit recipes right now. Editing is the next feature that will be in the plugin… I’m working on it right now, that version of the plugin will be available for users to update to in a day or two. And thank you, I appreciate the feedback! ^_^
Love the idea of the plugin, but I found it a problem, like Charmain, that I couldn’t edit my recipe which I found a mistake in. I ended up having to delete my entry entirely and instead simply typed my recipe out as per normal. I hope to see your update with the ability to edit recipes included in the next few days.
I love this plugin! Like everyone else, I can’t wait for the edit feature and I hate to be greedy but when you’re making the placeholder clickable to the editor – could you take out the backslash on apostrophes? I went to change my words to take out apostrophes only to find out I need to delete and re-enter the whole thing. The world will have to understand. 🙂
I’ve tried other recipe plugins and this is by far the best.
Thanks so much for putting this together!! Just one thing I would request to add to the plugin is that prep times, cook times, and total times need to include the ISO 8601 duration format within the tags in order for google to recognize them. I could not get success with google’s rich snippets testing tool without adding the properly formatted time durations.
Working with this now. Definitely needs an editor function, as others have suggested. Also, I just filled out the form as the plugin asks, but it seems to not place the code when you are in html mode in a WordPress editor. You need to be in visual mode. Not ideal.
Also, the plugin autmatically places the recipe at the top of the page, instead of where the cursor is within the post. Then its html gets glommed onto the html of the photo of the recipe that leads the post. Again, I’d put this high on the list of upgrades.
Thanks for working on this. Once it’s debugged, it will help us regular bloggers compete with the big sites.
Jennifer – I’m working on the Edit functionality as we speak. 🙂
Maureen – That was a weird bug, but it should be fixed now, thanks for bringing it to my attention! If you update the plugin, there should no longer be any issues with apostrophes.
Charmian – It’ll hopefully be out soon!
Jenn – Thanks for the suggestion! Once I get the edit functionality working, I’ll work on implementing that.
Hank – Yes, I’m working on the editor function. The HTML mode issue was a known bug that is now fixed. Upgrade the plugin, and it should work fine now.
Regarding the placement of the recipe, I’m unable to replicate that bug… I’ve never had a problem with that, and have always been able to place the recipe wherever I’d like to in the post. My best suggestion is to try again once you update the plugin. Sorry I can’t help more with that… but if I can’t see the bug for myself, there’s unfortunately not much I can do to fix it. :-/
Hi Allison! This looks great! Is it possible to add photos in between steps in the recipe instructions? If not, that’s a feature I’d really love to see in the future.
Thank you SO much for doing this! I look forward to seeing the new and improved version. Know that many, many food bloggers are grateful, and sending you a virtual nori roll in thanks. 🙂

For those who can’t wait for the update to make edit’s to existing recipe’s if you have phpMyAdmin access through your webhost you can make changes directly in the database without too much difficulty
Okay, you have officially made me love your plugin! I came across it two days ago and was really bummed that the recipes weren’t editable. It was still an amazing tool, and there was a little note that said it would be editable in the future, so we decided to work with it. Then, I pop on this morning to do some more work on our site, and there is already an upgrade! AND it makes the recipes editable! Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is going to be an extremely useful tool for our project!
Can you add WP angel to your list of accomplishments? THANK YOU!! This plug in is just what I need, after struggling with Hrecipe. Off to see if you have print option plug ins too. I need to figure out how to customise my print option to print just the recipe portion of my blogpost. I’m terribly code challenged.
Good luck with your ballerina dream. You inspire me!!
Kristina – Not yet, but that’s something we plan on trying to add soon. 🙂
Taylor – True, although I wouldn’t recommend it. For people who don’t know what they’re doing, there’s also a huge risk of completely screwing up their blog. Besides, the edit functionality is now on the plugin, so there’s no need for anyone to mess with their database. 🙂
Deeba – No print plugin right now, the RecipeSEO plugin was the first one I’ve done. But I hear there are some other great print plugins out there, so I’m sure you can find one that works for you. 🙂
Cathy – It’s already there. Just update your plugin (or install it if you haven’t already) and you’ll see it.
Thanks for your reply Allison. I have the plugin in a draft for my next post.
Is it possible to build in a print button into the current plug-in so just that portion prints? Also, in the future. would you consider adding some basic editing to it to enable multiple steps in recipes to be highlighted for eg – basic cake, filling, topping as each requires a different set of ingredients & instructions.
The plugin is looking good in the preview. Will let you know once it’s live, in case you have the time to stop by later.
Thank you & have a great day!!
Hi Allison,
Thanks for the update. I’ve installed it, and the window pops open just fine, but after inputting text and saving, I can’t go back to the post and it loses everything I put in. Is this compatible with Thesis 1.8? I’m wondering if that’s the problem. I have the latest version of your plugin and the latest version of WP. Thanks!
I’d like to hear your thoughts on Cathy’s second question. Quite pertinent, as the recipe cannot be viewed in the HTML window, but only in preview mode while drafting it…. or am I wrong?
Hi! I just wanted to recommend to Deeba for printing: I have found Scott Hair’s “WordPress Print This Section” ( http://bit.ly/hakvFF ) plugin works really great with Allison’s Recipe SEO.
Hi deeba, its actually really simple and you don’t have to mess with any code! In your visual editor, at the top of the grey part (actually, just under where the Recipe SEO button is located), there is a little button with a printer on it. All you do is highlight your recipe and hit that button. It wraps your recipe in the necessary code and does all the work for you! Good luck! (Let me know if you need any more help!)
Thanks Jessica. I feel like quite a DOH! I had downloaded another WP print plug in earlier & couldn’t locate the silly button. Just unistalled that, uploaded the new one…and I think I have it in place. Thanks a million for taking the time for me, and making the effort to tell me about the plug-in. Means a lot to me.
{You can see it here in my latest post – http://www.passionateaboutbaking.com/2011/03/cooking-sriracha-style-sweet-red-chili-dipping-sauce-some-like-it-hot.html }
Wow! Great plugin! I heard about Google’s microformats for recipes not too long ago and was thinking the same thing: make a plugin to do this in my WordPress based blog. I was searching the state of the art before I started coding and lo and behold if you haven’t already done it! You just saved my weekend and much more time in the future…maintaining a plugin and coding up recipes! 😀 I’m headed to the beach and will be thanking you as I soak up the sun, knowing my recipes are being index properly. Cheers!
Thank you so much for creating RecipeSEO! I have a self-hosted WordPress blog, but I’ve actually been using your RecipeSEO.com website version so that I can do some of the editing that others have mentioned.
One question – on the two recipes that I’ve formatted and tested with Google’s Rich Snippet Testing Tool I’ve been getting the following errors:
Warning: At least one field must be set for Hcard.
Warning: Missing required field “updated”.
Do you know what these refer to? From what I’ve been reading on the forums, it sounds like Google won’t even consider displaying rich snippets for sites if there are any errors so I figure I’d better find out how to fix these. Thanks so much again!
I’ve got an error too, but in one field with the Rich Snippets Testing Tool Beta testing the post on which I have the plugin in use
{http://www.passionateaboutbaking.com/2011/03/cooking-sriracha-style-sweet-red-chili-dipping-sauce-some-like-it-hot.html}
The following errors were found during preview generation:
* Empty page.
Looking forward to a reply on Kathy’s comment. Thanks for everything Allison
For those getting errors when trying with Google’s testing tool, you will need to do a little editing of your theme I’m afraid – while this plugin will format the recipe portion of the post just fine, the “entry-title” “hCard” errors are coming from the theme you are using. I had the same problem on my blog, and it requires a little code editing to make it work error-free. My write up about how to do that will be posted on MakeUseOf.com in a week or so, so please keep an eye out for it.

I was going to work out a way of implementing the recipe microdata with ‘post types’ (?) this afternoon but got sidetracked looking for help with attribution etiquette. I found Food Blog Forum. I found your wonderful article and found myself near to tears of relief and gratitude. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.
Hi, thanks again for the plugin. Now that you can update recipes I entered a recipe using the recipe seo plugin.
Firstly, I created a recipe and only entered 1 ingredient to test the editing feature, I then edited the recipe and it worked fine, however when I went to edit the recipe again later, it appears that the recipe form only saved the 1 ingredient I entered at the start, although when the wordpress recipe post is displayed it shows the entire recipe.
Once I completed my post I tested my recipe using the Google Rich Snippet testing tool and received the following error
hfeed
hentry
entry-title = Kibbet il roheb (Good Friday Soup)
entry-content = Share this:PrintEmailDiggShare Gourmet Traveller is one of my favourite food magazines. Each month when my magazine subscription arrives in the mail I can’t wait to flip through to see what…
published = 2011-03-11
Warning: Missing required field “updated”.
Warning: Missing required hCard “author”.

href = http://www.ledelicieux.com/
title = Delicieux
Warning: The information will not appear as a rich snippet in search results, because the marked-up content does not appear to be the main focus of the page. More information. (Is this correct? Let us know.)
Are you able to offer any advice on this?
Finally, a couple of enhancement suggestions.
1. Is it possible to add some formatting options when entering the recipe? Such as making the title of the recipe bold?
2. Add a recipe source field.
Allison – thanks so much for your plugin as well as the online form. You are as talented as you are beautiful.
Since I am not running WP 3.1 (yet), I will use the online form. I’ll probably use the form even after upgrading to 3.1 because I prefer to edit using Windows Live Writer. I also like that the form generates code that can be used in Blogger as well.
Can you add a form field to enter in the photo URL?
Do all the codes have to go inside the hrecipe DIV? What if I wanted to put the photo at the top of a post while the recipe sits at the bottom? Does that mean I have to put 2 hrecipe DIVs in the post, or can I just add the “class=’photo'” parameter to the IMG tag?
I suppose if I wanted extra formatting for the Ingredients tag, I’ll have to edit my theme’s CSS?
I have posted a link to this article in my column on HuffPost, and a similar one on my website. For more info on Google’s recipe search, the hRecipe CSS tags, examples, and other related info in this article and a similar one on HuffPost http://www.amazingribs.com/blog/google_rich_snippets.html
You are my new best friend for developing this plug-in. However, one problem; it was easy to install, it was easy to put in the recipe items. However, when I update and publish the recipe and view page I only see the place holder. The recipe does not show. How do I fix this? I put in a vegan macaroni & cheese recipe. When I view the page–see place holder only.
Wonderful. I don’t use wordpress so I had to use the on-line tool, and it is well designed and easy to use.
I used a different tool at first to try to have a look at some code that already implemented the rich snippets, but the code was a mess(and didn’t work). Yours, however, not only worked, but the code was nicely laid out and easy to read, so I think I have a better idea about these Hrecipe micro-format things. I had to delve into your code to edit it for aesthetic purposes, to fit in with my blog theme and layout, which was extremely easy thanks to the neatness of your code.
I was so excited to see this plugin! Unfortunately, I am having the exact same issue as Connie, above, who said:
“Connie says: March 11th, 2011 at 8:40 pm
For some weird reason, after I click “Add Recipe”, the only thing that gets inserted is the PNG image of Recipe SEO. No text at all. :(”
I tested this using an older post. I also have the Print This Section plugin, but I saw above that others are having it work with your plugin, so I guess that must not be a conflict.. Is it just an issue with updating an old post rather than publishing a new one? I’ll be trying it again as soon as I do a new post, but since Connie didn’t seem to have answer, I thought I’d chime in and say I’m having the same issue.
I have the same question that Cathy Tibbles had on March 10 –
“Will the plugin degrade gracefully? If it is no longer used, with the recipes all be gone? Or there somewhere in the posts?” This is very important to ensure that no data is ever lost.
This links to another question – how do we edit the html of the recipe after using the plugin?
By the way, adding to my post above, I do know that we can access the database where the plugin stores the recipe information via phpMyAdmin like Taylor suggested, but if there’s a bug/crash/deletion of the plugin, I suppose the associated tables would be deleted as well.
Hi Allison, it’s Anita! Your plugin came at a great time as I’m upgrading my site to WP. I have some programmers helping me out as my programming skills are super limited. They installed your plugin but we are still having issues with backslashes appearing before single apostrophes. Do you know if it was fixed in your latest update? Thanks so much!
Anita

Thanks for adding the new format for recipe prep and cook time, but when I just entered a recipe using the freshly upgraded plugin, I get a fatal error because of it. Bug in the system? Or did I do something wrong?
Upgraded today, plugin no longer working, and the category page the recipe is in stops rendering at the post with the shortcode in it – is this a known issue?
Anybody got the previous version to roll back (I upgraded within WP without backing up…)
Oh, man… Upgrade crashed my site, too! Thanks to Rob’s comment, I backed up before upgrading!
HankShaw
-
The fatal error in the upgrade will only destroy your recipe if you have previously added data for cook time/prep time. My recipes that did not have this info are still up. The one where I put it in has crashed. Dunno if this helps your diagnostics, Allison, but I thought I’d put it out there.
Deeba – A print function is something I can consider for the future, but it will probably be a while before I can get to that. I can look into styling options for the posts, when I have some time to do so.
Stephanie – We’ve tested it with a basic version of Thesis, and haven’t had any issues. Could you explain in more depth what the problem is? I haven’t been able to replicate it, so I’m not quite sure how to fix it.
Cathy – Click on the placeholder image, and there will be two big buttons that appear on top of it. Click the pen button to edit the recipe, click the X button to delete the recipe. Currently no, the plugin will not degrade gracefully – if you delete the plugin, your recipes should still be in your database (so if you reinstall the plugin you’ll be able to use them again) but they won’t display any longer. This is an upgrade I’m working on, and hopefully will be available soon.
Jessica – Thanks for the recommendation!
Gary – Thanks for the review. 🙂
Michael – Thanks, I’m glad to hear you like it!
Connie – If you look at the image, you’ll see that it says you need to preview or publish the post in order to see your recipe. I’ve explained why I decided to do it this way in my FAQ.
Kathy – That actually has nothing to do with the RecipeSEO plugin. hcard is not an hrecipe field, so this probably has to do with your theme itself, rather than the RecipeSEO plugin.
Deeba – The error in the Rich Snippets Testing Tool is not because of my plugin – if you test the other pages on your site where you didn’t use my plugin, you still get the same error.
James – Thanks for the suggestion for my other users. 🙂
Mike – You’re very welcome! I’m glad you like it.
Jennifer – The errors that you are getting are not related to my plugin. hfeed, hentry, etc. are things that are in your theme as a whole, not in the recipe itself. I am hoping to be able to add formatting options soon. You can put the recipe source in the ‘Summary’ section.
Nate – Thanks. Photos are something I’m planning on adding, when I get the time. Yes, all codes must be inside the *same* hrecipe div, otherwise it will not be considered a part of that recipe. For now, any formatting you want will have to be done in your theme’s CSS. I’m planning on adding styling options for all the components, but it may be a week or two before I can release that version.
Meathead – Thanks for writing about the plugin!
Venetta – Do you have the latest version of the RecipeSEO plugin, and the latest version of WordPress? If not, try upgrading and see if that helps. If you do have the latest versions, can you give me more details about the problem, and a link to the page so I can take a look at it?
Matt – Thanks, I’m glad you like it!
Amber – If you look at the image, you’ll see that it says you need to preview or publish the post in order to see your recipe. I’ve explained why I decided to do it this way in my FAQ. It will be the same for both old and new posts.
Arjun – Currently no, the plugin will not degrade gracefully – if anything happens to the plugin, your recipes will still be in your database (so if you reinstall the plugin you’ll be able to use them again) but they just won’t display while the plugin isn’t active. This is an upgrade I’m working on, and hopefully graceful degradation will be available soon. Right now you cannot edit the HTML of your recipe.
Anita – I’ve fixed the problem with backslashes before apostrophes, can you try the latest version and see if that fixes it for you? 🙂
HankShaw, Rob, Jessica, and Lauren – Could you all give me more details about exactly what happened? Unfortunately I haven’t gotten any errors on my end, so I’m going to need more information before I can try to fix it. You can email me at allison@sushiday.com so we can try to get this fixed. Thanks, and my apologies for the bug!
Allison,
Thanks for responding. My website is: http://www.drkalu.com/recipes. I deleted what was there and started over. The same thing is occurring. I have wordpress 3.1 and I just installed recipeSEO last week. I started with the zip file and then I saw the plugin and reinstalled it from that since the zipfile didn’t work.
Having the same issue with the fatal error only on posts where I used the plugin. It was working fine until I did the upgrade.
This is what it gives me.
Fatal error: Class ‘DateInterval’ not found in /home/content/20/6045120/html/wp-content/plugins/recipeseo/recipeseo.php on line 850
I had the same problem as Renee: I did the upgrade this afternoon, and I lost the recipes. I got the same error message, too. When I deactivated the plugin, my recipe posts came back (minus the recipes) with a display of “[amd-recipeseo-recipe:1],” which is a file name, I guess.
Chiming in to say I have the same problem as Renee, Hank Shaw, Jessica and Lauren. I had only used the plug-in on 2 recipes so not too much drama but maybe it helps to know I am using the latest version of WP and Thesis 1.7. Thanks for all your hard work!
I’m curious about the plug-in, but all this talk of fatal errors and losing recipes makes me too scared to try it! I think I’ll wait until all the bugs are worked out. Especially since I am a technical dummy and if there’s a problem I won’t know what to do about it!
Not sure if you changed the prep, cook and total time markup code, but when I use the Recipe SEO generator page, it did not add in the ISO 8601 duration format, so the Rich Snippet Testing Tool didn’t like the resulting markup. I had to manually insert that info before Google would accept it.
Could you please make this small addition to the Recipe SEO generator page?
Hello! I came across this site and you by way of pinchmy salt, food blog s’cool, and ntsc. It has been a long road. I am a new food blogger just trying to find my voice and niche and this plugin will surely help I am sure. I just wanted to say Thank You! you are very generous in doing this for the blogging community.
thanks so much. can you explain the difference between this plug in and the recipeh plug in which supposedly also creates this type of format?

i have an issue with this plugin i dont find it useful because it hides the code itself 😉 behind the plugin picrure…. in your readme you say that this is to protect us from messing with the code.
now how i can use it and add images along the way? how can i do step by step tutorials with images if i cant add images or tweek the code.
its a good idea this plugin, but maybe a more useful (to the masses) approace will be to let the plugin create a skelaton of the code on which user can addon
or maybe an option, let it handle all or some…. at the current version i cant use it….;-((
Awesome plugin…should make adding recipes a whiz on most sites. I use html within my posts to constructs each page manually and that’s time consuming. I’ll give this a shot.

Allison great plugin idea! I just downloaded it and will be installing it on my blog! I love guacamole and wanted to learn how to blog so I thought why not start a blog about guacamole! Let me know what you think of my blog. Thank you again. I will make a donation soon.
Hi Allison, I am trying to use your plugin, but the published post is still showing the preview image. I’ll leave the post up for now hoping you can take a look, but I will have to find a solution fast.
I’m having the same problem as Be. — I’m using WP 3.1 and just grabbed the newest version of your plug-in. When I publish a post, I still see the “your formatted recipe…” message instead of the actual recipe.
I support several blogs (foodie and non-foodie) that want to use your plug-in, but I can’t seem to figure out the problem. Is there any additional help documentation for Recipe SEO?
Hi Allison,
We have been using the RecipeSEO generator for our recipes on RecipeRelay – but so far the Rich Snippets web master tool continues to say there is not enough data to generate a preview. We get the following warning for all the cook time/prep time/total time fields –
Warning: In order to generate a preview, at least 2 of the following fields are needed: prep time, cook time, total time, calories, rating, review count, ingredients, or image. See the recipes help page for more information.
We have entered more than two of these fields but for some reason they are not being recognized. Have other people been having this problem? Are we doing something wrong? Any advice?
Hey there! I was wondering when graceful degradation of the plugin would be possible? If I want to copy the recipes from an older post into my html, how can I do so?
Great plugin Allison! I would like to be able to include a hyperlink on an ingredient to be able to direct readers to a product page for the mix our client sells that is an integral part of the recipe. Currently, it seems to throw a / in front of the ” that is necessary for the href code.
ls there a way to do it that I’m missing? If not — could you add it to your wishlist? Thank you for the great plugin!

Hi,
I am Planning to use your plugin, I would be really grateful if you let me know, when you are going to release next updated version.
Hi, I’m trying out your ingenious plugin. I just have one problem – I dont’ know how to get the Labels for ‘Cook Time’, ‘Prep Time’, etc. to show up. Right now it just lists them as “35 minutes” with no label. Should I add the label when adding the number – i.e. put “35 minutes’ into the cook time field, instead of just ’35’? Or will that mess up the display when it’s shown in Google? If you go to my site and click on the entry “Cherry Bars,” I think you can see what I’m talking about. Thanks! -Sherry
To Jen and Be – I had the same problem. A temporary fix is to make sure you are in “Visual” mode when creating the post. I had to delete the original post and then re-create it in visual mode (as opposed to HTML), and it worked fine then.
Thanks for going to all the effort of making this great plugin, I just gave it a go and its so easy to use. Great features, I love being able to position the recipe box its a great idea.
Hi
Thanks just installed the plug in and it looks great (thanks) but now I get this error – does it conflict with FB like plugin? There was an error fetching the like box for the specified page.
I don’t understand how to edit the display of the recipe with css. I don’t want each time to take up a whole line with breaks in between and I want the title of the recipe to be bolded.
From what I understand, in order for Google to recognize a recipe, only a name and ingredient needs to be filled (even though we filled more)? Is that right? I also tried using the Rich Snippets Testing Tool and it gave me Warnings like: missing “entry-title” missing “updated” and missing hCard “author”. I
Can you point me in the right direction? Your help and expertise is appreciated. Please let me know if you need access to view it in WP Admin, etc.
Thanks for the update. I’ve installed it, and the window pops open just fine, but after inputting text and saving, I can’t go back to the post and it loses everything I put in.
Once it’s debugged, it will help us regular bloggers compete with the big sites.
HI!
Seems like a great plug-in. I just have to ask one question…is the ingrideints separatet in av databes field or is it ordinary data in the post?
Why I´m asking is because I want to be able to search recipes by separated ingredient.
Thanks

Way to go Allison! While I am not much of a “foodie” this is a great accomplishment! How about for your next project…an iphone app?
This is terrific! When you go to upload the plug-in, is it the entire file? I am having trouble uploading to wordpress.
I just answered my own question- looks like it is the entire zip file:-)
Shelley – Thanks! Oh certainly… there will definitely be iPhone app development in my future. ^_^
Lauren – Yep, the entire zip file. Hehe, you beat me to the answer. ~_^
Yet another reason why we love you, Allison. Thanks for all your work on this.

Thanks, for your answer Allison. I eagerly (yet patiently) await your editing update. I REALLY appreciate you creating this plugin.
Great Allison, thanks!
As for the positioning of the recipes – I can’t replicate that either. The recipe shows up wherever my cursor was when I clicked the icon.
Thanks Allison! We really appreciate all your work on this.
You inspire me!!

would love the ability to edit the recipes too!! 🙂
Maureen, Andrea, Stephanie, and Jessica – Thanks!
Thanks!
Can you explain HOW to edit the recipe? I don’t see it?
One more question – will the plugin degrade gracefully? If it is no longer used, with the recipes all be gone? Or there somewhere in the posts?
I’d like to hear your thoughts on Cathy’s second question. Quite pertinent, as the recipe cannot be viewed in the HTML window, but only in preview mode while drafting it…. or am I wrong?

Hi! I just wanted to recommend to Deeba for printing: I have found Scott Hair’s “WordPress Print This Section” ( http://bit.ly/hakvFF ) plugin works really great with Allison’s Recipe SEO.
This plugin is awesome. Thanks Allison. I’ve written an hReview post about your hRecipe Plugin 🙂
Thanks a million Jessica. Hopefully I’ll be able to figure out how to place it {I’m pretty code challenged as I’m very new to WP}. Gracias!
Thanks for your suggestion Jess. I have the plug in downloaded but have no clue as to how to use it with Allison’s plug-in. Help!
{You can see it here in my latest post – http://www.passionateaboutbaking.com/2011/03/cooking-sriracha-style-sweet-red-chili-dipping-sauce-some-like-it-hot.html }
No problem, Deeba! I am so glad that I was able to help!
Cheers!
For some weird reason, after I click “Add Recipe”, the only thing that gets inserted is the PNG image of Recipe SEO. No text at all. 🙁

The following errors were found during preview generation:

Warning: Missing required field “updated”.
Warning: Missing required hCard “author”.

title = Delicieux
Thanks again.
Thanks again!

Hello Allison.
Otherwise, brilliant plugin.
The fatal error in the upgrade will only destroy your recipe if you have previously added data for cook time/prep time. My recipes that did not have this info are still up. The one where I put it in has crashed. Dunno if this helps your diagnostics, Allison, but I thought I’d put it out there.
I’ve also been having a problem with the upgrade. Would love to know if it is possible to fix without losing all the recipes on my blog.
I’m having issues as well. I get this error: Fatal error: Class ‘DateInterval’ not found
You can take a look at the recipe here: http://www.cuponeando.net/2011/03/receta-de-cuaresma-calabacines-rellenos-de-lentejas/
Allison,
Thanks for responding.
Ideas? Please help!
Just installed the plug in today. I cant edit the recipes. Any ideas.
Chiming in to say I have the same problem as Renee, Hank Shaw, Jessica and Lauren. I had only used the plug-in on 2 recipes so not too much drama but maybe it helps to know I am using the latest version of WP and Thesis 1.7. Thanks for all your hard work!
Can someone help me? I am trying to activate this plugin but I keep getting this error message:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected ‘{‘ in /base/wp-content/plugins/recipeseo/recipeseo.php on line 346
What does that mean? Thanks!

I’m curious about the plug-in, but all this talk of fatal errors and losing recipes makes me too scared to try it! I think I’ll wait until all the bugs are worked out. Especially since I am a technical dummy and if there’s a problem I won’t know what to do about it!

Allison,
Not sure if you changed the prep, cook and total time markup code, but when I use the Recipe SEO generator page, it did not add in the ISO 8601 duration format, so the Rich Snippet Testing Tool didn’t like the resulting markup. I had to manually insert that info before Google would accept it.
Could you please make this small addition to the Recipe SEO generator page?
Allison,

Thanks again Alli.

Warning: We did not understand “60 minutes” as cooking time.
Warning: Cooking time should be in ISO 8601 format – http://microformats.org/wiki/hrecipe#duration
cooktime
Followed by this at the bottom:
Warning: In order to generate a preview, at least 2 of the following fields are needed: prep time, cook time, total time, calories, rating, review count, ingredients, or image. See the recipes help page for more information.
We have entered more than two of these fields but for some reason they are not being recognized. Have other people been having this problem? Are we doing something wrong? Any advice?

Hi, I’m trying out your ingenious plugin. I just have one problem – I dont’ know how to get the Labels for ‘Cook Time’, ‘Prep Time’, etc. to show up. Right now it just lists them as “35 minutes” with no label. Should I add the label when adding the number – i.e. put “35 minutes’ into the cook time field, instead of just ’35’? Or will that mess up the display when it’s shown in Google? If you go to my site and click on the entry “Cherry Bars,” I think you can see what I’m talking about. Thanks! -Sherry
Oops, I meant to say – Should I put “Cook Time 35” into the cook time minutes field?
To Jen and Be – I had the same problem. A temporary fix is to make sure you are in “Visual” mode when creating the post. I had to delete the original post and then re-create it in visual mode (as opposed to HTML), and it worked fine then.
Hey there, still wondering if it’s ok to upgrade to the latest WP version with this plugin. 🙂
